About the Department
With outstanding faculty and a curriculum that emphasizes hands-on learning, we prepare students for unlimited success. We offer majors in finance and business economics through the School of Business as well as majors in economics and applied mathematical economics through the College of Arts and Sciences. We also offer a finance concentration in the MBA Program.
Economics and finance at UD offer solid preparation for fields such as banking, financial markets, government, law, insurance and international business — and an excellent background for graduate study. You can gain real-world experience in our internship and cooperative education opportunities. You can serve as teaching and research assistants. The opportunities to build a strong resume with practical experience are plentiful.
In our department, the learning is hands-on. In the Davis Center for Portfolio Management you can implement strategies in securities management and gain experience with software used on Wall Street. You can participate in RISE, the world’s largest student investment forum. In the Vertically Integrated Investment Program, you can manage a $6 million portfolio.
Our faculty members have earned the rank of "outstanding" in a recent poll of students. With open doors and an eagerness to make your experience unique, we continually strive for excellence in teaching and research.
Working with the College of Arts and Sciences, our faculty also instructs students pursuing the bachelor of arts in economics or the specialized degree in applied mathematical economics. The College provides academic information for these areas of study on their web site.
