  • I want to earn my MBA from a reputable school. Is the University of Dayton MBA Program accredited? Is accreditation important?

Not all accreditation is equal. The AACSB is truly the seal of approval for the highest standards in graduate business education.  The University of Dayton's MBA Program is the premier AACSB-Accredited program in the greater Dayton area and one of only approximately 350 nationwide. Only institutions providing the highest quality of business education earn this achievement from the International Association for Management Education.  Meeting AACSB standards is a measure of highest excellence and standards in MBA program curriculum, faculty, facilities and student body.

  • How flexible is the MBA Program at UD? I will need to fit it in my work schedule.

The MBA program at the University of Dayton was developed to meet the needs of both working professionals and full-time candidates. Unlike "lockstep" MBA programs, we offer a flexible course schedule that allows you to take courses at your own pace. And the University of Dayton’s MBA program is offered on semesters, which can more easily accommodate working professionals. Our courses are offered typically after 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. In addition, we offer lunchtime and online courses. If you are enrolling for MBA foundation courses (which can start at the beginning of a semester or at midterm), there are eight different starting points throughout the academic year. Our semesters include Fall, Winter and Summer terms. The Summer term includes two separate six-week sessions.
  • Does the UD MBA program offer any classes online or any study abroad opportunities?

The MBA program offers online electives. The MBA program also provides students opportunities to experience international business and study abroad.
  • How can I make an appointment with a Program Advisor?

  • How can I apply for the MBA program?

The application process is easy. Unlike some MBA programs, we do not require an interview for admission. You can get instructions and apply online with no application fee. You'll need to submit some materials along with your application.

    Read the requirements at http://gradadmission.udayton.edu/programs/require_sba.asp

    Apply online at http://gradadmission.udayton.edu.

When making admissions decisions, the Graduate Committee reviews all materials as well as professional and academic experience. Qualified students may be able to enroll in MBA course work applicable to their degree requirements for one semester on an unclassified basis prior to completing the GMAT. A successful GMAT score is required, however, before subsequent enrollment. The MBA program does not set strict deadlines for applications; instead, a rolling application process is utilized which allows students to apply at any time. Usually, two weeks is needed to process an application in order to register for classes.
  • I want to be prepared for future opportunities and promotions in my company. How long will the MBA from the University of Dayton take to complete?

Approximately two to three years is the average time to complete the MBA program on a part-time basis. Part-time students, with an undergraduate degree in business, can complete the program in as soon as a year and a half. Completion time depends on your undergraduate major, the number of courses you elect to take each semester and other personal factors. Because all working professionals have different situations, we recommend that you complete the MBA program at your own pace.
  • What is distinctive about the University of Dayton’s MBA Program and why is it valuable?

The University of Dayton’s MBA program is team-focused and combines full-time, doctorally qualified faculty with leading business executives to help you analyze today's business problems and practices. Multi-disciplinary faculty teams teach all courses in the integrated core. Each core course is built upon business themes rather than a single business discipline, reflective of true business practices. For example, marketing and finance are integrated in our curriculum. The integrated core classes stress two vital concepts necessary for success in the workplace: critical thinking and communication skills. The capstone segment provides hands-on strategic experiences and is mentored jointly by a policy professor and an executive-in-residence.
  • What concentrations can I choose from at UD for my MBA? Is E-commerce available?

You may choose electives to complete a program concentration based on your career goals and interest. Specific concentrations are currently offered in accounting, business intelligence, entrepreneurship, finance, international business, management information systems, marketing, operations management and technology-enhanced business/E-commerce. Concentrations are optional. If preferred, students can take any four electives of their choosing.
  • What are the requirements to satisfy a concentration?

Three electives (9.0 semester hours) must be taken within a discipline. The exception is accounting, which requires all four electives (12.0 semester hours) to be in the accounting field.
  • May I apply my professional experience and training toward my MBA?

The graduate committee will review your transcripts and resume and will determine waivers of foundation coursework based on your background, professional experience, relevant certificates and training, and dates of completion of relevant undergraduate coursework.
  • My undergraduate degree was not in business, so what courses will I have to take?

The foundation courses in the MBA program are designed to quickly build fundamental knowledge in all business disciplines including accounting, finance, business data analysis, marketing, economics and organizational issues. All foundation courses (except MBA 620 and MBA 670) are accelerated, half-semester courses that will quickly provide a strong basis for completing the program.
  • Is the GMAT required for admission?

Yes, the GMAT is required for full admission to the MBA program. The GMAT is required of all AACSB accredited schools. However, students could be granted one semester of studies in the MBA program before successfully completing the GMAT test. Qualified students will be granted one semester of studies based on academic and professional experience.
  • How and where do I take the GMAT?

You may register for the GMAT on-line at www.mba.com or call GMAT customer service at 800-717-4628 to schedule an appointment. There are several domestic and international testing centers making it possible to schedule the GMAT at a location that is convenient for you. We recommend that you schedule the test as soon as possible because preferred times go quickly.
  • How do I study for the GMAT?

We recommend the Official Guide for GMAT®, with software, available at www.gmac.com or in bookstores, as an excellent resource. The University of Dayton MBA program also offers free GMAT practice tests administered by Kaplan testing services every few months. These practice GMATs are held on campus and you can register for them by calling the UD MBA office. There are a number of other resources available to assist you, such as Kaplan classes. You may obtain more information at http://www.kaptest.com/. Because doing well on the GMAT is important for admission, we recommend a minimum of 40 hours of preparation to build confidence and obtain the highest score possible.
  • What is the cost of the MBA program?

The cost per credit hour is $694 for the 2007-2008 academic year. Please check with your employer regarding your tuition reimbursement plan. Most major employers have tuition policies that will cover all or most of the cost of the educational investment of your MBA. A convenient Deferred Tuition Reimbursement Plan is also available for students who receive reimbursement from their employers, but not until courses are completed and grades received. This plan, for a minimal cost, defers all tuition charges until several weeks after classes are completed. There are numerous opportunities to receive loans, for more information check out the GMAC/MBA web site. There is also a limited amount of financial aid available.
  • What type of financial aid is available?

Three primary sources exist for financial aid for graduate students. These include financial aid, dean's fellowships, and graduate assistantships.

To find out about student loans you may contact the UD Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 800-427-5029 or 937-229-4311 or visit their web site.

A limited number of dean's fellowships are available each term. Apply online at the link below.

Graduate assistantships allow students the opportunity to pursue an MBA degree at a full-time pace. Graduate assistants work in an academic department in exchange for part or all of their tuition. Graduate assistants also receive a stipend. A typical graduate assistant will work 20 hours a week. Assistantships are limited each year and are very competitive. In order to be considered for a graduate assistant position in the School of Business, you must be fully accepted as an MBA student.
